Who We Are
Who We Are
A thriving church family of all ages and stages of life and those who attend Aldersgate are encouraged to become faithful disciples of Christ by following the example of Jesus: to love, pray and serve one another as well as the community in which we live.
Founded in 1948, Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Toledo Ohio is a part of the Maumee Watershed District/West Ohio Conference of United Methodists.
Aldersgate was named for the place where John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, found his heart was "strangely warmed."
About Our Culture
John Wesley and the early Methodists were particularly concerned about inviting people to experience God’s grace and to grow in their knowledge and love of God. They placed primary emphasis on Christian living which is putting faith and love into daily action. This emphasis was what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" and it has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today. We invite you to learn more about our rich theological heritage.
Since the establishment of this congregation, its goal has been to offer:
- friendship and inspiration to the people of its community
- a vital center of worship and learning
- an active place to be in service to the needs of the community
- to affirm the love and work of God and share the same with others
- to strive for people to come into a personal relationship with Christ
